Rebuilding the rudder: finally adding fiberglass
By Ryan on Tuesday 8 March 2011, 17:11 - Rudder - Permalink
Today I started adding the layers of fiberglass over the rudder's core. No surprises, just cloth and epoxy!
I precut the four layers of cloth (I decided to go 50/50 with the carbon
fiber/fiberglass) to the shape of the rudder face. Each sheet is slightly wider
than the previous, because the trailing edge of the rudder will be built-up
over the (waxed) wood frame. This will assure me a nice straight edge. I will
have in total 8 layers of 200G fiberglass and 4 layers of 200g carbon fiber
from SF Composites.
